Cracking weekend at Park Farm, Stafford with Staffs DA for the Annual Archery Festival. Our stewards, Andy, Char, Pete, Cindy and Lily did a fine job stewarding for us and coordinated the archery competitions like Robin Hood would have his Sherwood Forest Archers Academy, back in the day (I’m told a few of our members were around then, no names though, Pip!).
Friday night saw a chilled afternoon and evening with units arriving steadily… think we stopped counting at around 30. Sunsets were stunning and the event shelters proved to be much more user friendly than our inflatable marquees!
Saturday arrived with another beautiful sunrise and while the meet was relaxed, there were underlying tensions as some of the more competitive started to “practice” their “bow & arrows action”. Worth adding that there were NO children practicing. Just the big kids!
Our senior “Elf & Safety” Manager (Andy), expertly roped off the target zone ensuring no one could possibly get shot (little did he realise just how BAD some of the competitors were going to be).
Barbeque smells filled the afternoon and then at 1:30PM, the action started. Kids first with some brilliant shooting… before we moved onto the adults. Competition was fierce with plenty of encouragement (or was it laughing?) from the audience… until the last competitor had dispatched his quiver. Great fun was had by all and steward Andy and his merry men did a fine job of coordinating the event. Thank you!
Saturday night saw the winners announced, bingo and a truly magical quiz – with much groaning about the questions – but the winning team romped home with the prize. Music from our resident DJ (Izzy) saw the night out, children playing, adults laughing and singing. A fine evening…
In the wee hours of Sunday morning, the forecast thunderstorms arrived – and coffee morning was a mixture of wet chairs, wonderment at how the event shelters were still there and biscuits. Lots of biscuits.
Another fantastic weekend…roll on the next!
