DA
Terminology
You may come across some terminology and wonder what on earth it all means!
Here is a quick guide to some of the most common things you might see and hear.
Region
The UK is split into geographical Regions covering the local DA’s. We are part of Yorkshire Region.
Weekend Meets
A Weekend Meet will normally take place over a weekend but can be open for up to 5 nights. They are sometimes also referred to as rallies. We run them all year round, offering basic facilities of fresh water and somewhere for waste disposal. They make fantastic value social camping allowing you to camp regularly but not cost a fortune.
Temporary Holiday Site
Temporary Holiday Sites are similar to Weekend Meets but can be situated in more popular holiday destinations like seaside resorts and countryside retreats. Temporary Holiday Sites allow members to camp affordably throughout the UK for more extended periods than Weekend Meets. THSs can be open for up to 28 days but there is no minimum stay.
Featured Events
Periodically throughout the year, we host some very special events. They can be a Weekend Meet or a Temporary Holiday Site but with much more emphasis on entertainment. One of those featured events is our annual Bogie Race where members bring their home-constructed bogies (soap boxes) and hurtle down a big hill!
Grey water
Grey water is the waste water that comes from your unit. This will need to be collected in a suitable container and disposed of correctly in accordance with the land owners directions. This can sometimes be in the hedgerows of the field you are camping on. Grey water should not be left to drain straight onto the grass.
Elsan
This is where you can empty your chemical toilet waste.
Steward
The steward is the person who is in charge of the campsite. You will see this as you enter the camping area and to whom you will pay your fees / present your booking confirmation. You must report to the Steward before camping. They will also inform you of any events or social get together that may be happening. The steward's unit will be clearly marked. If you have any questions or problems whilst on site, this is who you see.
Unit
This is the term used for your choice of accommodation, whether it is tent, caravan, motorhome, trailer tent, camper van or folding caravan.
EHU
This mean electric hook up but most sites do not offer due to the locations we use, if electric hook up is available it will be stated in the meet description.
PRO
PRO stands for Public Relations Officer
DA
District Association. You will be assigned a DA upon registering with the club. You are usually placed with a DA that is near to where you live. Once you are a club member, you can camp with any DA.
